About Us
The Snug Harbor Community Chorus welcomed a new Director, Steve Bergman in the fall of 2022, and enjoyed a most joyful Holiday Concert under his direction. We look forward to working together with him this spring.
Additionally, Snug Harbor welcomes back its accompanist, Sarah Troxler, piano department chair at South Shore Conservatory of Music, with campuses in Duxbury and Hingham.
Bergman has served in the past as the accompanist for the group. He is also a member of the musical theater faculty at Bridgewater State University and oversees the choral and theatrical programs for the Rockland Public Schools.
He has worked with performing arts organizations and theatrical companies around the country, including the New Bedford Festival Theater, Speakeasy Stage Company, Seacoast Repertory Theater, Actors Playhouse, North Shore Music Theater, Big League Theatricals, the Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts and the Ogunquit Playhouse.
An accomplished composer and playwright, his latest musical, “Hannah and Margaret,” received a concert reading in April. His series of art songs, “Four Poems by Isaac Rosenberg” was released in 2020 on Apple Music. Other works include scores for the musicals, “Jack the Ripper: The Whitechapel Musical,” “Animal Farm,” and the award-winning musical for young audiences, “Reigning Cats and Dogs.”
Bergman’s score for the Red Sox musical, “The Curse of the Bambino,” was produced by the Lyric Stage Company of Boston before the team won their first championship in 2004. His play, “The Trial of Madeline Gee,” was presented by Massasoit Community College in 2018.
As a keyboardist, Bergman’s work can be heard on the CD and DVD recordings of “Nunsense Jamboree,” starring Vicki Lawrence. He has also toured the country conducting productions of “Dreamgirls” and “Guys and Dolls.”
Bergman studied film scoring at the Berklee College of Music, and received both his M.Ed. in Arts Education and his CAGS in Educational Leadership from Fitchburg State University.
He lives on the South Shore with his wife, Maryann Zschau, and their daughter, Emma.
